We are excited to share that we are building a library of resources on diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. This library will include book recommendations, workshops and training, and podcasts highlighting this vital work and allyship. We are in the beginning stages of building the library for our community. AIGA’s Diversity and Inclusion Learning Basics
A curated list of articles and learning resources, encouraging designers and creatives to add these tools into the thinking process to influence their designs with a truly inclusive approach, and to have a strong foundation for designers that are at the beginning of the social justice learning curve, and is the first of many tools from the AIGA Diversity & Inclusion task force to help activate a designer’s ability to think critically about equity, inclusion, privilege, and bias.

Black Experience in Design
The Black Experience in Design: Identity, Expression & Reflection presents the work of six editors and over 70 designers, artists, curators, educators, students, and researchers who represent a wide cross-section of Black diasporic identities and multi-disciplinary practices. Forewords by Emory Douglas and Ruha Benjamin frame the book in an historical and socio-political context, and an Afterword by Eddie Opara offers an intimate, spiritual coda.

Respectful Disability Language: Here’s What’s Up!
Many people who do not have a disability now will have one in the future. Others will have a family member or a friend who will become disabled. If you become disabled in your lifetime, how do you want people to describe you? If a family member or friend becomes disabled, how would you want him/her to be treated? Disability affects all people. So learn respectful language and teach others.

CA Arts Council: - Racial Equality Workshop
A free online public workshops intended to advance racial equity within the state’s arts and cultural field. The three-part series was co-created through a partnership with the Bay Area’s PUSH Dance Company and Dancing Around Race, as part of a pilot project supported by the Government Alliance on Race & Equity’s Innovation and Implementation Fund. Themes explored will be relevant to arts organizations, artists, nonprofits, and government agencies interested in advancing racial equity practices in their institutions.

What Color is Nude?
What color do you associate with the color nude? Do you picture shades of light pink? Variations of browns? Or is it dependent on your complexion? The word itself describes a state of nakedness, devoid of the specified color. Yet throughout history, the color “nude” has been attributed to shades of pale pink and beige based on Caucasian skin tones (color psychology).

The Diversity of Performing Arts Audiences: Weighing Organizational Factors and Business Decisions
For the period studied, large organizations with relatively high levels of corporate support were linked to lower income representativeness of audiences over time. Conversely, low levels of corporate support were associated with progressively higher levels of racial and income representativeness among audiences.

Pronouns Matter
What are personal pronouns and why do they matter? In English, whether we realize it or not, people frequently refer to us using pronouns when speaking about us. Often, when speaking of a singular human in the third person, these pronouns have a gender implied -- such as “he” to refer to a man/boy or “she” to refer to a woman/girl. These associations are not always accurate or helpful. Check out the site to learn more.
